Iford Manor itself was closed when I walked here, but it was such a lovely walk, I will be heading back to go into the grounds & onwards to visit Farleigh Castle when I have time. There is some really beautiful countryside all around the area, it's worth exploring

Fantastic new pub opened. Good atmosphere and worth a visit

Nice place to stop for a snack or lunch. This is a short deviation from the Kennet and Avon Canal on to the Somerset Coal Canal.

I got onto this segment from the bridleway so I don't know how far down the hill starts, I'd imagine around the bend to the west. Very sharp and poor surface makes for a pretty grovelly climb. It opens out to hilltop views towards Trowbridge and Bradford.

Cracking beer garden

The picturesque Iford Bridge spans over the Frome River at the very southern tip of the Cotswolds near Bradford-on-Avon. As you cross the bridge, you can enjoy delightful views up and down the river with surrounding scenes of lush greenery, idyllic countryside, and classic Bath Stone houses.

Tucked away at the bottom of a tranquil valley, just 15 minutes from Bath, a visit to the romantic, award-winning, Grade I listed Iford Manor Garden transports you as the garden design blends Italian, Byzantine, Ancient Roman and Oriental garden inspirations, together with architecture and classical sculpture.

The picturesque Cotswold hamlet of Iford straddles the River Frome a few miles Bradford-on-Avon. As well as a colleciton of beautiful Bath Stone houses and cottages, it has a medieval bridge, built in the 1400s. Grade I-listed Iford Manor was home to garden architect Harold Peto at the turn of the 20th century. His Italianate Peto gardens are open to the public, with tea rooms on site for refreshments.

Popular swim spot

Good bridleway, easy to pass.

This large basin sits next to the incredible Dundas Aqueduct and often has moored canal boats present. The aqueduct links the Kennet and Avon Canal with the mostly dried Somerset Coal Canal, the latter of which now only has a short operational section that mainly involves the basin. There's a cafe here as well as bike hire if you want to cycle further afield along the canals.

This wonderful pumping station is over 200 years old and still in excellent condition thanks to considerable volunteer time. The station opened in 1812 to pump water from the River Avon to the neighbouring canal using a waterwheel to generate power. The pumping station was recently adopted by the Claverton Pumping Station Group, a collection of local enthusiasts who lovingly restored the station in the 60s. Now, with the support of the Canal and River Trust, the group continue to maintain it and are hoping to make it operational once more. You can visit the station on a pre-booked visit for a fee but even the exterior is well worth seeing.

Great place for a Summer dip when the waterfall is a trickle. Winter is a different story!

Gorgeous place for a swim - walk along the weir and take a dip where the water gets deep.

This gorgeous manor's Italianate gardens are open to the public and well worth a visit. On a hot day it really feels like you have been transported to Italy!

Iford Manor and its famous 2.5 acres of historic gardens sit at the heart of the idyllic Frome River valley accessed by narrow lanes (with passing places). The tea room has a gazillion choices for tea and some amazing cakes too. Only slight issue is.... it’s a really steep road either side of it...

Nice cafe, good toilets and secure bike parking in view from the cafe itself.
