🛑 Important Notice 🛑: The beautiful wooden bridge over the Trave River, which is approximately 6–8 meters wide at this point, is closed (as of February 2026). The exact reason is unclear, but structural damage is suspected. Currently, pedestrians can bypass the closure by climbing over the wooden supports, but crossing by bicycle or with a dog is considerably more difficult.

The single trail along the Trave river has several small niches that are well-suited as dog parks.

A really nice and well-equipped picnic area, including a canoe launch.

An absolute dream rest stop. Trash cans, a dock, several barbecue and seating areas, and shelters.

A 17th-century shipwreck was discovered in the Trave River near Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein in 2020. The ship, a cargo sailing vessel of the flute or galiot type, was lying on the waterbed at a depth of approximately eleven meters.

Navigable river length. The Trave is paddleable for 61 kilometers from Warderbrück / Krems II to the Kanaltrave (confluence with the Elbe-Lübeck Canal) near Lübeck, and then a good 22 kilometers to the mouth of the Untertrave into the Baltic Sea.

The Trave River rises near Gießelrade in a headwaters area in the Ahrensbök area. It initially flows westward through Lake Wardersee and, coming from Bad Segeberg, makes a wide arc before reaching the Stormarn district in Sühlen.
