The Emperor's Villa is a house in Fredensborg. Behind the baker's pond, just up towards the castle park, lies the small, inconspicuous building that bears the grand-sounding name: The Emperor's Villa. It was 20 October 1885 that Emperor Alexander III of Russia bought the house, which was then called the Swallow's Nest. In the beginning there were rumors that he wanted to give the house as a wedding present to Prince Valdemar. Then it was said that it was to be housing for Russian detectives during the Emperor's visit to Fredensborg. That didn't turn out to be true either. The villa stood for several years and seemed almost to go into oblivion until the renovation began. The rafters were raised to the ridge of the roof and the house got beautiful carvings on the gable and rafters. You could almost say that the house was Russified, despite the fact that the style is known today as Schweitzer style. And the house's location high on the slope with the distinctive granite blocks also brings to mind Switzerland. But the owner and family were Russian, and on 1 October 1889 they inaugurated their own villa, which Dagmar (Empress of Russia) called: Our dear miniature Gatchina. The house was furnished by C.B. Hansen, not opulent, but quite neat and tasteful, so that anyone could move in without feeling bothered by imperial luxury. King Christian IX and Queen Louise gathered all their children and children-in-law in Fredensborg. Emperor Alexander III now had his own residence in Fredensborg. Alexander was so pleased with the villa that he included it in the Fabergé egg he gave Empress Dagmar at Easter 1890. The egg is called in English: "Danish Palace's egg". The third picture in the Fabergé egg shows the Emperor's Villa. On September 17, 1891, Czar Alexander III held a family party in the house, perhaps a belated birthday party for his mother-in-law, Queen Louise. In the kitchen he himself went with Crown Prince Frederik's daughters: 16-year-old Louise, 13-year-old Ingeborg and 11-year-old Thyra. The four cooked, set the table and welcomed the family. It consisted of King Christian IX and Queen Louise; Frederik 8., Louise and their sons Christian 10., Carl, Harald and Gustav; Prince Valdemar and Princess Marie with Princes Aage and Axel; Willie and Olga with Marie, George, Nicholas and Christopher; The Princess of Wales with George, Victoria, Maud, Louise and her husband the Duke of Fife; Prince William and Prince Hans; The Empress, Dagmar and her children: Nicholas, Michael, Xenia and Olga. source: Wikipedia https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kejserens_Villa
