Very nice guesthouse with lots of small restaurants and cafes. Cozy and nice view of Lake Vänern, lots of seating around the harbor. Opposite is the Ekkuden nature reserve.

The old town of Mariestad (gamla stan) has old Swedish craft traditions to offer with its small, culturally historical buildings. The old town of Mariestad is one of the best-preserved old towns in the country. Many small enamel signs on the houses provide information about its history and its previous and current use (descriptions only in Swedish).

This idyllic Vandrarhem (hostel) and café is located in an old craftsmen's courtyard from the 17th century. Previously used as a tannery, these buildings are now centrally located in the gamla stan Mariestad (old town).

Here on the Tidan, the foundation stone of the city was laid with Marieholm Castle

Outside the season (June-August), restaurants and cafes are only open to a very limited extent.

If you are lucky, you can see the bridge in action when there is shipping traffic.

Nice picnic spot! Several picnic tables, grill areas, toilets.

The Göta Canal is definitely worth a trip. Right next to the canal is the wonderful cycle path, which is mainly paved with dolomite sand. Many pretty lock cafes invite you to linger.
