This section of the long-distance Billingeleden trail passes through the Staversäter area. Even if you’re not hiking the full trail, it’s a lovely spot for a short walk.

A beautiful mix of farmland, pastures and forest typical for the Valle area. The trail passes through open meadows and small wooded sections.

A small parking spot with picnic tables and an information board showing local hiking suggestions. A nice place to start your walk or take a short break after your hike.

We came across this route in August 2023. The gates to the grassy pastures were now locked and closed with signage not to tresspass. Had to turn around and find an alternative route.

Kata Gård is a private farm church from the Viking Age. Archaeologists have made sensational finds here during their excavations. The church's crypt is possibly the oldest surviving room in Sweden. The church ruins were named after a woman's skeleton: At the end of the Viking Age, Kata ruled over the farm belonging to the church. The excavations revealed that Varnhem was Christianized a century before the rest of Sweden. An information building was erected at the excavation site: Here, modern architecture is combined with walls that are thousands of years old. Some tombs, including Kata's tomb, can be seen through panes of glass in the floor.
