"Chastè" means "castle" in Romanesque. This is no coincidence and indeed indicates the existence of a castle complex. Today, however, very little is known about this castle, as documented records are lacking, and the sparse remains of the walls do not allow for a more precise dating. However, it is assumed that the castle was of strategic importance in the Middle Ages, as movements by sea and on the left bank route could be easily monitored. Furthermore, the castle grounds were protected by steep, rocky slopes. At the very top, faint traces of a tower-like rectangular structure can be seen, and the entrance to this structure is believed to be in the east. The Nietzsche memorial stone at the southern tip was erected in the year of the philosopher's death (1900) in his memory. A stonemason from Promontogno carved verses from Zarathustra into the memorial plaque, which is now integrated into the rock. Here, at the southern end of the peninsula, the view over Lake Sils and Piz da la Margna is particularly beautiful. The reflections in the water create exceptional lighting conditions. She must search for the young holiday guest Karl, who has gotten lost in the forest of God Laret. Will she find him? The Sils Fairytale Trail offers children a variety of activities and inspiration. The artfully carved wooden sculptures by the renowned local sculptor Reto Grond are a truly impressive experience. Europe's highest-altitude shipping line, operating from mid-June to mid-October. Not in winter, of course, as the water is covered in ice and snow... Routes can be seen on the map. The boathouse for the ship is also located here, with numerous information boards.
