The first chapel in Furggstalden probably existed as early as the 17th century. During the episcopal visitation in 1897, the prayer house in Furggstalden, dedicated to Saint Anne, was inspected and found in poor condition. A few years later, an avalanche swept away the chapel, which was never rebuilt. Only the chapel bell was saved. This bell now hangs again in the chapel, which was rebuilt in 2006 on the initiative of Caesar Zurbriggen. The motif of the large choir window depicts the visit of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth.

The Zermeiggern Chapel also serves as a memorial site where those who died in the Mattmark disaster are commemorated.

From here you have a great view towards Mattmark and there is a very nice playground.

From the dam you have a great view of the Saas Valley and the Valais mountains.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the parish church of St. Barbara took place on July 1, 1938. A church dating back to 1692 had to be demolished. The first chapel in Saas-Almagell dates back to 1494. In 1893, Saas-Almagell separated from the mother church in Saas-Grund and became its own parish.

Beautiful view of the Saaser Vispa River from the village of Saas-Almagell. The village also has a lovely little lake with a playground next door.

The view up there and the journey along the small road, some of which has switchbacks, is a real highlight. Whether you're traveling by bus, car, or bike. The condition of the road, which was repaired very quickly after the natural disaster in 2024, is also absolutely fantastic.
