A beautiful building located on the slopes of Monte Alto in the municipality of Montegrotto. The villa currently hosts events and exhibitions. Beyond the villa is a park with numerous hiking trails leading into the Euganean Hills.

From the convenient parking you can access a convenient path that leads to the Villa, from there you can continue along several rather interesting paths.

Perlite was mined here. This is a volcanic material that is used for insulation in plaster.

Perlite, found on the Euganean Hills, is formed from rhyolitic lavas rich in silica, typical of volcanic environments. When lava interacts with water, obsidian, a glassy form of volcanic rock, undergoes a hydration process. This leads to the formation of perlite, characterized by a porous structure due to the expansion of volcanic glass. These processes typically occur in underwater volcanic environments or near bodies of water. The presence of perlite in the Euganean Hills is therefore a testimony to their complex volcanic history.

The Madonna del Monte Pirio Church, restored in 2010, is nothing more than a small Marian shrine built by local farmers. The simple structure in white brick with a bell was erected to the Madonna with the prayer to protect the vineyards, especially against storms.

From this panoramic point above Baone and Mount Cecilia, you have a splendid view of Monselice and Mount Ricco. The latter is one of the most famous peaks of the Euganean Hills and has an ancient convent, the hermitage of Santa Domenica, on the summit.

A really beautiful hike, enchanted paths, great view at the top. I wouldn't classify it as easy though. If it has rained a few days before, at least the ascent is muddy and slippery, and further up it is difficult to walk because it is very rocky. The descent is also steep and rocky at the beginning.

2월 18, 2024, Villa Draghi
Villa Draghi stands on the slopes of Monte Alto, on a small hill west of the town of Montegrotto. The building, as we see it today, was built between 1848 and 1850 where previously stood a Venetian holiday home from the 1600s. Subsequently passed into the ownership of the Donati family, the seventeenth-century building was then purchased by Pietro Scapin, the who, finding the villa in a state of serious decay, decided to demolish it and rebuild it. However, the building is called Villa Draghi, with reference to the family that owned it from 1874 to 1965. The entire property was acquired by the Municipality of Montegrotto Terme in 1972.
