We had a fantastic hike through the Buxtehude moors. We saw many deer, herons, birds of prey, as well as horses and cattle. Great hiking trails wind through beautiful nature 💚 and are also suitable for cycling. The longest route here is about 12 km. You can easily customize your route. There were many airplanes in the sky, and the railway runs right through the moor, but there was no noise pollution. At least, we didn't experience any. The 12 km route is now on our list for next year's bike ride. This moor is quite different from the High Moor near Oldendorf. We also enjoyed a very pleasant morning walk in sunshine 🌞 and sunshine ❄️.

A beautiful bridge spans the Este River from the east bank. It connects Vierstraße with Hansestraße. There is a large parking lot on Hansestraße.

A hike along the Este dike is highly recommended: a beautiful circular walk. Spring or autumn are best. In the height of summer, there's no shade. You'll be treated to various views of the surrounding nature, the Este River, and the thatched-roof houses. There are plenty of benches for taking a short break. The lock house is also very interesting and worth a visit 👍🏼.

The Elbe's tributaries—the Schwinge, the Lühe, and the Este—divide the Altes Land into three sections: the first, second, and third mile from west to east.

The Hare and Hedgehog Fountain is a bronze and stone sculpture by the artist Fritz Fleer. It symbolizes the race between the hare and the hedgehog, which, according to legend, took place on the Buxtehude Heath. The hare runs as fast as he can, but the hedgehog is already there. How can that be, wonders the hare 🐰. Almost everyone knows the fairy tale of the hare and the hedgehog. Many associate it with the town of Buxtehude on the Este River. The story by the local poet Wilhelm Schröder has earned Buxtehude the nickname "Fairy Tale Town." A sculpture commemorates the race of these two mismatched runners 🦔.

On Sundays when shops are open, the town of Buxtehude is very lively and worth seeing. Many small shops offer their products. A small art market is located in the town center and is very popular and well-attended. A visit is highly recommended 👍🏼.
