The climb to the cave is easy and offers a magnificent view of the bay and the coastal landscape. Those wishing to continue up to the fortress ruins face a well-secured but nonetheless challenging, strenuous, and steep ascent. Komoot's "easy" rating is therefore misleading.

Monemvasia was an important base and fortress in the Byzantine Empire. Until Greek independence in 1821–30, it was considered the Gibraltar of the East due to the great difficulties associated with attempts at conquest. In its heyday, between 10,000 and 25,000 people lived here. From 1715 onwards, population decline began, and it became a dying village. By 1971, there were only 32 inhabitants.

The viewpoint is about a 15-minute walk from the View Bar. Just park in the large parking lot and don't forget some water. It's well worth it!

Considering the altitude, a jacket is a good idea, when we went it was 26 degrees at sea level and 13 at the top of the mountain. This route does not require any special skills. The time of the app for the walk is correct and then you can walk calmly.
