That was the highlight of the top hiking trail. There are so many birdhouses there, and also food in a box. You don't even have to sit on the bench for long before the birds come flying in to get food. The area is nicely designed; there are even cushions provided for the bench.

The shelter and many benches by the linden hedge invite you to take a rest. Relaxing on a lounger and letting your gaze wander is something special.

It is called Grenzhaus because it used to divide the Catholic Eichsfeld from the Protestant surrounding area. A beautiful half-timbered building. There are also parking spaces nearby and you can take beautiful tours of the Mühlhausen city forest and the Hainich from here.

A memorial stone was erected here in 2023 by the Rennsteigverein 1896 e.V. local group Hainich-Rennstieg.

A little to the side of the Rennstieg, you won't see it straight away if you don't know exactly where it is. After a few climbs and descents in the Hainich you can take a short break here.

Jürgen Raiber, Leipzig/Mölbis "Statue of Liberty" In his own fairytale-like, gnome-like style, the Leipzig School artist created a Statue of Liberty with a deliberately childlike, melancholic, humorous expressiveness. In contrast to the well-known New York Statue of Liberty, the figure is depicted far less monumentally and heroically but rather smaller than life-size with feminine curves. Jürgen Raiber saw the end of the GDR, in which he lived, as a liberation from state control. He and his wife were activists in the Monday demonstrations and experienced directly the emergence of the many people who took to the streets despite possible dangers to their lives thus significantly initiated the opening of the wall. At this point there was an old oak tree that served as a landmark for a former trade route. Unfortunately, the oak no longer exists, but a new tree was planted by a local association at the beginning of the millennium.
