The plateau near the summit of the Schildwacht was once a beautiful, typical juniper heath. Sadly, it is no longer grazed, is becoming increasingly overgrown, and is steadily losing its charm. ;-(

The Boller Steige passes by here and cuts its way through the rock.

The Lion Trails are a collection of beautiful circular hiking trails in the Göppingen district. The Steigentour is one of the best-known and leads along old Alb trails between Bad Überkingen and Hausen – offering magnificent views of the Fils Valley. Along the way, you'll experience rocks, forests, and expansive meadows – typical of the Swabian Alb. The name is a reminder of the challenging but rewarding climbs. Ideal for anyone who loves nature, exercise, and panoramic views.

As you climb up to the castle, sit in the shade under the linden tree and enjoy the view... wonderful.
