The Saale River is bordered on both sides by lush greenery. A beautiful sight.

There are two clearly defined alpine ascents that are easily manageable with trekking poles. Beyond these, there are other routes, but these carry a slightly higher risk of slipping. This risk can be reduced by wearing very good hiking boots, using trekking poles effectively, and having absolute sure footing. Any injuries can be mitigated by reacting quickly and correctly if you do slip. A free fall is out of the question as long as you're not climbing. Given the loose rock, climbing is not advisable anyway.

You can do the trail without climbing equipment. However, it's very steep, sometimes slippery, and unsecured. In my opinion, it's very dangerous when wet. Fantastic views!

Yes, you could say that: you don't need climbing equipment. But it's steep, sometimes slippery, and not doable when wet. Fantastic view from the top!

Kahla (Thür) station is a railway depot serving the town of Kahla in the Saale-Holzland district of Thuringia. It opened in 1874 and is now a stop for several regional lines.

Not far from the train station, two beautiful historic steel truss bridges lead over the Saale to the hiking trails to Leuchtenburg. It's worth looking at the river and the beavers' tracks from here!

If you want to swing while hiking, this is a great place to do it. Swing hiking over the Saale...that's only possible here. It was just a small, fun experience...on the way from Jena to Rudolstadt. We'll be back and will do a longer loop and then definitely go over the swing bridge again 🫶 swing hiking🥰😄👍🥾🥾

It is the only suspension bridge over the Saale. Originally a practical connection to cross the Saale and thus bring the two villages of Großeutersdorf and Kleineutersdorf "closer" together. It also made it easier for farmers to access the farmland. The first construction plans for the Eutersdorf swing bridge were made in 1870. However, it could not be built until 1907/1908. The river suspension bridge was built in a very classic way. There is a bridge access on both sides. The middle part of the bridge is the actual suspension bridge with a span of an impressive 56 meters. The suspension bridge has 9 meter high metal pylons on both sides, which are mounted on concrete bases. The supporting cables were attached symmetrically and anchored in concrete foundations at the bridge entrances. As was common in the past, some metal parts were riveted (not screwed). The cost-effective option with wooden beams was chosen as the walkway. The amount of adrenaline you get when crossing the Eutersdorf suspension bridge is certainly not particularly high. But its pleasing appearance, tangible cultural history and pleasant swaying make this suspension bridge an experience worth walking on and seeing.
