Kasseburg is located in Schleswig-Holstein in the southwestern part of the Duchy of Lauenburg district, in a scenic location directly on the northern edge of the Sachsenwald, the largest contiguous forest area in Schleswig-Holstein. The village consists of two districts, Kasseburg and Oedendorf (Neukasseburg). Kasseburg, laid out as a circular settlement around a body of water, is a clearing village whose arable land was carved out of the forest. Natural stone walls and an old tree population still characterize the townscape today. Oedendorf is a street village that was built later. The town is located about nine kilometers northwest of Schwarzenbek. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register. Since 1962 the community has belonged to the Schwarzenbek-Land district. The old spelling is "Caßeburg". Just under two kilometers east-northeast of the village, immediately before the confluence of the Fribek and the Mühlengraben, there is the Runwall, a demolished Slavic rampart from the late 8th century, which can be easily recognized on aerial photographs due to the tree growth. The largest extent of the oval inner surface is 80 meters.
