First mentioned as a castle at the end of the 12th century, Penkun Castle is today one of the last remaining castles of the Pomeranian Dukes. The castle association runs a border and customs museum in the former administrator's house, and there is a small exhibition on the judicial system in Pomerania in the castle cellar.

Picturesquely situated on the castle hill, the residence in Penkun dominates the city. In addition to the castle dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, the entire complex of buildings includes relics of a medieval stronghold, a gatehouse from 1486, a gate from 1614, the manager's house from the 18th century and a farm building built in the 19th century.

Here, 750 years ago, Cistercian monks began to use the water power of the small stream. Over the course of history and many wars, the mills were repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. The Salvey mill, which was owned by Geesower LPG and was still in use as a grist and sawmill until 1992, most recently ran using engine power. The solar pioneer Gerd Hampel then bought the mill in 1996 and installed a solar system to generate clean energy. He also set up a museum to preserve the mill as a technical monument of regional historical importance. The penultimate owners took over the mill in 2008 and founded a new association to ensure the mill's continued existence. The mill is now primarily used as an event location.

Directly on the shore of Lake Lebehner See, a new representative manor house was built between 1907 and 1912, commissioned by the Cologne cement manufacturer Carl Königs and his wife Ursula, née von Dewitz. The old manor house then served as the estate manager's house. The previous owners of the Königs, who owned the estate from 1905 until the expropriation in 1945, were the Brandeck-Nadrense families, who sold it to the von Ramin family, who in turn sold it to the Gamp brothers. After 1945, both houses were initially used as refugee accommodation, and later also for municipal purposes and rural consumption. Today they are private property. The renovation of the manor house has started.

The mill itself is certainly charming, and the surrounding countryside is picturesque, BUT the path to the mill is made of the worst kind of surface. I've rarely seen such a cycle-unfriendly path. Very rough... well, they weren't even cobblestones. More like coarse pebbles. I took a few photos of it. Recommendation: Don't go to the mill. The extremely difficult surface isn't worth it.

A perfectly built bike path is a measure of economic development, then there might even be a coffee in Penkun. The mayor should think about that!

A church in Penkun was first mentioned in 1261. The church was subsequently severely damaged by fire seven times and subsequently renovated or rebuilt. In 1854, the second-to-last church, with its wooden tower, along with 144 of 189 residential buildings, were destroyed in a major fire. The organ, dating from 1863, was built by master organ builder Barnim Grüneberg (Stettin). It was damaged during World War II. The builder's great-grandson, Barnin Grüneberg Jr., restored it and replaced the façade pipes starting in 1959. It has two manuals and 13 registers.
