The 115 kilometer long Elbe Lateral Canal connects the Mittelland Canal west of Wolfsburg with the Elbe near Lauenburg. The canal was built between 1968 and 1976 to connect the Mittellankanal and the Elbe.

The houses without windows are remnants of the old on-site shooting range. These were the target bunkers or the bullet trap bunker. During the course of the ESK construction, the access from the barracks was blocked. A new system was therefore built at Wendisch- and Deutsch Evern and the old system was dismantled. The rest was pushed aside. You can also see the walls that separate the individual shooting lanes.

Here you have to change sides, because you can't go any further in the industrial area. This is a bit cumbersome by bike, but doable.
