1월 16, 2026, Marie-Curie-Gymnasium (Building I)

The Marie Curie Gymnasium in Wittenberge looks back on a long history. Founded in 1895 as a private boys' secondary school, it developed over the years into a significant educational institution in the region. Established as a private boys' school in 1895, it was transferred to municipal ownership in 1898. The main building (Building 1) was constructed between 1899 and 1900 according to plans by Wittenberge's city architect, Friede Everhard Bruns. In 1900, the school moved into its newly constructed building on Sandfurttrift, designed in the Neo-Gothic style with exposed brick facades. Today, the Gymnasium places a strong emphasis on science subjects and has been a member of the Association of Mathematical and Scientific Excellence Centers at Schools (MINT-EC) since 2000.

Clara Zetkin Park in Wittenberge is one of the city's central green spaces and serves as an important meeting place. Well-maintained paths, lawns, and a mix of mature trees invite visitors to enjoy leisure activities and relax. Named after the politician and women's rights activist Clara Zetkin, the park reflects Wittenberge's socio-historical significance. Today, the park seamlessly blends urban life with nature and is an integral part of the city's public space.

As part of the River Landscape 2024/2025 project, the Brandenburg Friends of Nature conducted an excursion to the oxbow junction near Breese with Jens Martin, a specialist at the State Office for the Environment. The Stepenitz is a key landscape component of the Prignitz region and a major, largely near-natural tributary of the Elbe. Between Perleberg and its confluence with the Elbe near Wittenberge, the Stepenitz is relatively structurally poor. As compensatory measures for the dike construction, two oxbows near Breese were connected in 2023 to improve the structural diversity at this location. Jens Martin explained the importance of river restoration and presented the measures implemented.

The Kranhaus in Wittenberge is a historic building on the Elbe that originally served as part of the port facilities. It was built in the first half of the 20th century and served for a long time as a storage and transshipment point for goods transported across the Elbe. With the industrial development of Wittenberge, the building played an important role in the city's economy. However, after the decline of the port, the Kranhaus lost its original function and stood empty for some time. It was later converted into a restaurant, which operated until it closed a few years ago. In 2021, a Berlin entrepreneur bought the building with the plan to use it as a meeting and overnight location for project teams. Extensive renovations were carried out at the time.

A magnificent, historic building and a great photo opportunity. The town hall tower is 51 metres high and has a viewing platform at a height of 37.5 metres. From here you have a wonderful view.

The culture and festival hall in Wittenberge is not only the cultural center of the Prignitz, but has long since gained supra-regional importance far beyond the borders of the district. More than 40,000 visitors flock to the Wittenberg temple of the muses every year to attend one of the numerous events. The special ambience, the high-quality and varied program, the comfortable and barrier-free facilities and the latest stage technology make the visit an experience time and again. The halls of the culture house can also be used as a location for congresses and conferences. Thanks to the technical modernization and the variety of variations in the Great Hall since the extensive reconstruction of the house, meetings of all kinds are possible. Changing exhibitions are also presented in the gallery of the culture house. But it is not only the visitors who appreciate the outstanding quality of their culture house. Its reputation also ensures that big names have been rubbing shoulders in Wittenberge for decades. https://www.regioactive.de/location/wittenberge/kultur-und-festspielhaus-LnghCxb9B5.html

A very beautiful building! This is what you imagine a train station to look like. It's good that this building was preserved and hopefully will remain so! Not to mention that it still has a practical use today. 😉 As of January 25, the building, including its entire exterior facade, is being renovated. Wittenberge Station is an important transportation hub and is characterized by a long history and diverse infrastructural features. The station opened on October 15, 1846, at kilometer mark 126 on the Berlin–Hamburg railway line. Over the years, it became an important railway hub with the construction of additional lines, such as the connection to Stendal in 1851 and the line to Buchholz from 1870 onwards. The two-story neoclassical station building was built in 1846. The architect was Friedrich Neuhaus, known for other station buildings such as the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. Extensions were made in 1889 and 1923. Further information at: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnhof_Wittenberge
