This inconspicuous, fallow meadow is a valuable ecosystem: Rare plant species such as cuckoo flower and meadowfoam grow here – and animals such as the tree frog and the whinchat also thrive in this wet meadow. An information panel clearly explains why such areas are not "unkempt" but are ecologically particularly important. Without mowing or human intervention, a refuge for endangered species is being created here. 💡 Tip: Let your gaze wander over the area – with a bit of luck, you might spot colorful butterflies or rare dragonflies up close.

This lovingly restored meeting place in the heart of Waldweiler is a surprise: Between old stone walls, benches, and information boards about the village renewal, you'll find two modern vending machines – one of which offers ice cream in all varieties: vegan, classic, fruity, or even as a dog treat. This small facility combines regional awareness with modern amenities – perfect for a short break with shade, information, and a cool treat. 💡 Tip: The place is particularly charming thanks to its blend of past and present. It's also ideal in hot weather – the seating is covered and quiet.

The basement Mulde is originally an almost completely open-land landscape. Due to extensive reforestation of stream valleys, spring hollows and slope areas with mixed and coniferous forests in the 20th century, this character has changed, especially in the eastern part of the unit, where larger forest stands directly adjoin the neighboring quartzite ridges. The rest of the landscape, on the other hand, largely reflects the cultural-historical usage patterns with predominantly arable plateaus that alternate with extensively used slopes and spring hollows. In addition to lean grassland, heather and bristle grass, wet and wet meadows as well as reed beds are widespread in the extensive hollows (e.g. Keller Mulde nature reserve, valley low near Reinsfeld, etc.). https://lfu.rlp.de/fileadmin/lfu/Naturschutz/Dokumente/NSG-Album/Trier-Saarburg/NSG-Album_Keller_Mulde.pdf A bench with information board invites you to linger with a view of the protected area.
