6월 26, 2025, Lech River at Gersthofen
The Lech is a right tributary of the Danube. The 256 km long river originates in Vorarlberg in the Hochtannberg region at the confluence of the Spullerbach and Formarinbach streams in the Tannläger valley. It flows through Tyrol and southern Bavaria, where it empties into the Danube. Shortly before the Austrian-German border, it joins the Vils river, forms the artificial Lechfall near Füssen, and crosses Swabia and Upper Bavaria on its way. The largest cities on the Lech are Landsberg and Augsburg; in this city, it receives its largest tributary, the Wertach. The river empties into the Danube near Marxheim. Source: Wikipedia

The Fugger Castle Gablingen is a historic castle in the municipality of Gablingen in the district of Augsburg, Bavaria. It was acquired in the 16th century by the influential Fugger merchant family and served as the administrative seat of their rule in the region. The castle is picturesquely situated on a hill above the Schmutter River and is directly connected to the neighboring parish church of St. Martin. This connection symbolizes the close connection between secular and ecclesiastical power at that time. The castle building is characterized by its late Gothic architecture with a steep gable roof and bay windows. A striking staircase tower with an onion dome complements the ensemble. In 2020, the listed castle was restored and renovated according to original plans, taking into account both modern living standards and the historical building fabric. Today the castle is privately owned and is not open to the public. Nevertheless, it remains an important testimony to regional history and architectural development in Swabia.

11월 3, 2024, Schmutter Bridge in Gablingen
The Schmutter is a 96-kilometer-long river in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia, which flows into the Danube from the right opposite Donauwörth after a generally northerly course. In the municipality of Gablingen, which is located in the Augsburg district, the Schmutter shapes the landscape and offers a wide range of opportunities for leisure activities. Landscape and nature: In Gablingen, the Schmutter flows through an idyllic floodplain landscape lined with meadows and forests. The natural surroundings provide a habitat for numerous animal and plant species and are ideal for walks and bike rides. The section along Gablingen Castle is particularly attractive, where the historic architecture is reflected in the water. Leisure opportunities: There are well-developed cycling and hiking trails along the Schmutter, which invite you to explore the surrounding area. Anglers appreciate the river for its abundance of fish, although appropriate permits are required. The proximity to the Augsburg - Western Forests Nature Park also offers further opportunities for nature experiences. Flood protection: The Schmutter can cause flooding during heavy rainfall. In June 2024, a flood occurred in Gablingen, in which some streets were flooded and water penetrated basements and living areas on the ground floor. On Saturday evening, the situation became life-threatening and numerous residents of Hauptstrasse, Bauernstrasse, Angerstrasse and Mühlstrasse were evacuated. Cultural significance: The Schmutter is not only of scenic importance for Gablingen, but also of cultural importance. Events and festivals on the river bank are part of community life and strengthen the residents' sense of community. The Schmutter near Gablingen harmoniously combines nature, culture and leisure opportunities and makes a significant contribution to the quality of life in the region.

The jungle path on the Lech is a nature trail about 4 kilometers long in the “Lechauen Nord” nature reserve near Augsburg. It leads along the Lech and its tributaries through remnants of floodplain forest and heathland. At 17 stations, information boards provide information about the diverse flora and fauna of the floodplain forest as well as about landscape development and maintenance. For children, there are special boards with research assignments, game suggestions and stories that make the nature experience interactive. QR codes on the boards also provide access to further information, including aerial and underwater recordings and audio modules with animal sounds. The entrance to the jungle path is at the car park at the Europaweiher, and there are additional parking spaces at the Gersthofen tennis club. The path is accessible all year round and is suitable for families, school classes and nature enthusiasts who want to explore the Lechauen on their own. Guided tours are offered by the Augsburg Environmental Station. You can find more information on the Lifeguide Augsburg website.

9월 29, 2024, Gersthofen Lech Weir
In 1898, a further reconstruction of the riverbed began near Gersthofen with the initially three-kilometer-long Lech canal for the construction of a power plant. The combination of a dam and a run-of-river power plant in the river that is common today was not yet technically manageable at the time. A large part of the river water was channeled into the first canal section at the Gersthofer Lech weir at the level of today's Augsburg garbage mountain, at the end of which the first large hydroelectric power plant on the Lech went into operation in 1901 with the Gersthofen power plant. Today, the 10 km-long canal branches off from the Lech at the Gersthofer weir and flows back into the river after the Gersthofen, Langweid and Meitingen hydroelectric power plants. These three hydroelectric power plants were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list on July 6, 2019. This would not have been possible without the Lech weir and the Lech canal.

9월 27, 2024, Peterhof and St. Peter Chapel
The name Peterhof was first mentioned in 1488 by the chapel of St. Peter. The isolated farm was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, then rebuilt in 1683 and initially served as a rest stop for the wooden wagons on the way to Augsburg. The Peterhof used to belong to the municipality of Rettenbergen and with the incorporation of Rettenbergen on January 1, 1978, the hamlet fell to the town of Gersthofen.

Great swimming spots on the gravel banks in the Lech. Be careful, if you want to get to the gravel bank you have to go through the Lech and watch out for the not insignificant current!!
