Beautiful carved wooden signpost

In June 1880, the Amperbote reported on a tragic death in the market town of Indersdorf. The Munich doctor Heinrich Schmederer, who had to inspect the body of a murdered servant in the district hospital at the time, had gone to the Baden monastery brewery after lunch and never reappeared. One day later, his body was pulled out of the Glonn in front of a number of onlookers. And the deeply grieving Schmederer siblings had a four-meter-high cross erected at the scene of the accident as a memorial: the "Schmederer-Marterl." Inscription in old script: "Not far from this spot downstream, Dr. Heinr. Schmederer, a practicing doctor from Munich, met his death on June 24, 1880, at the age of 29, in the waters of the Glon while taking a bath. May he rest in peace."
