The Elsava memorial stone This memorial stone contains the inscription: 1884 - 1909. Originally there were two such stones. These were intended to commemorate the relocation of the Elsava, which had to be relocated to its current location over a length of around 120 m due to the construction of the Spessart Railway (opening on January 9, 1910) and a new bridge had to be built to create the necessary space for the railway embankment. The then wealthy and influential mill owner Völker in Schippach was not prepared to cede any land for the construction of the railway. The Spessart Railway's passenger train service was discontinued in 1968 and freight train service in 1978. The railway tracks were dismantled in the following years. Today's cycle path to Eschau runs exactly on this former railway line. Source: Information board at the site
