Bavaria's Best Ice Cream Parlor 2023 with the award for 1st place. Exotic flavors that you can't get everywhere, but the classics are also available in a waffle. Nothing to linger for long, as there are no direct seats, but there are benches where you can lick your ice cream in peace. 🍨

Continuing south, we soon reached today's geotope. 14. Former Großmaulburg gravel pit near Vilsbiburg > significant “The sediments exposed in the former gravel pit are placed in the Moldanubian Series of the Upper Upper Freshwater Molasse. The pit is completely overgrown except for two smaller outcrops. Previously, on the former mining wall, cylindrical cavities in the sediment could be seen in diagonally layered sands (leading to feldspar and biotite, with iron hydroxide impregnations), which indicated embedded driftwood. Leaf flora was found in clay lenses” (Environmental Atlas of Bavaria)

Expansion of the district heating pipeline network on Saliterweg. With the expansion of the district heating pipeline network on Saliterweg, the Vilsbiburg public utility company is setting an example for the energy transition. 26 properties are supplied with environmentally friendly heating energy. The energy supply of around 360,000 kWh/a means CO2 savings of around 120 tonnes annually.

Drinking water fountain on Saliterweg for groundwater extraction With the four 55 to 160 meter deep drinking water wells on Saliterweg and Zeilinger Berg, around 1.4 million m3 of groundwater are pumped annually using pumps powered by PV electricity. The one square kilometer water protection area around the fountains contributes to the high quality of the water.

600 kW/h lithium-ion battery storage from Vilsbiburg municipal utilities In order to increase the self-consumption of the open-space photovoltaic system on Saliterweg, a 600 kW/h lithium-ion battery storage system was put into operation by the municipal utility in March 2023. More than 80 percent of the annual electricity consumption of 620,000 kW/h for the four drinking water wells can be generated in the PV system, which is only 100 meters away, improving the energy balance of the municipal utility company by around 155 tons of carbon dioxide. The excess PV electricity is delivered regionally to municipal utility customers via the VIB-Regio model.

Old linden tree at the fork in the road to Zeiling. The linden tree at the fork in the road to Zeiling, which is over 200 years old, is not only an important habitat for birds and insects. The deciduous tree with a trunk diameter of around 1.2 meters and a crown diameter of 21 meters stores around 10 tonnes of the greenhouse gas CO2 in the trunk, branches and roots and thus makes an important contribution to climate protection.

10월 17, 2022, Vilsbiburg Solar Park
With the PV open space park on Saliterweg opposite the two drinking water fountains, which was completed in September 2022, Stadtwerke Vilsbiburg is breaking new ground, as it was previously difficult to set up PV systems in water protection areas. In addition, the area is permanently cultivated as a flowering meadow and thus contributes to drinking water protection. The system is primarily used to generate electricity for pumping and treating water from the nearby wells and the elevated tank on the Zeilinger Berg. While the pumps and water treatment were previously operated mainly at night with night-time electricity, they are now operated in conjunction with the PV system during the day during the sun-intensive hours. The system is supported by a battery storage system with a storage capacity of 600 kW/h. While the two large wells run with a capacity of 140 kW during the day, the two smaller pumps are operated at night with a total capacity of 72 kW from the battery storage. The power storage is fully charged once during the day and discharged during the night at an almost constant operating temperature. Thanks to the optimal operating conditions, a long service life of the 6 meter long and 2 meter high storage can be expected. By filling the 3,000 cubic meter drinking water tank with solar power during the day, this also becomes an energy store. Due to the natural gradient of almost 50 meters in height difference, the drinking water flows into the supply area without the use of energy with a line pressure of up to five bar and supplies Vilsbiburg's households. The total annual power generation of the PV system is calculated at 1.3 million kWh. Of the 620,000 kWh required for the water supply, more than 500,000 kWh will be produced in the company's own PV system in the future and, measured against the German electricity mix, save 155 tons of CO2 per year. With around one percent of Vilsbiburg's electricity requirements, the water supply is a major consumer. In the future, less than 120,000 kWh per year will have to be drawn from the power grid. The approx. 800,000 kWh surplus during the day will in future be offered to private and commercial customers by the public utilities via the regional electricity model.
