The Maria Rast Forest Chapel is an idyllic gem in the Mühlviertel region, impressive not only architecturally but also spiritually. It is situated on a wooded hill at 733 meters and belongs to the parish of Helfenberg.

Beautiful chapel, but it is closed from October onwards for the winter months. If you would like to visit it, call the parish. They will open it for you.

The pious legend gave this little pilgrimage church its name and a stone with three bowl-shaped depressions gave it its name. When fleeing to Egypt, the Holy Family rested here on this stone after a tiring journey through the inhospitable area. Out of pity the stone became soft and this created the impressions in the hard rock that remain to this day.
