Between pastures by the lake and Gols and between May and August you can watch these colorful birds rearing their young. You will get to see a lot, because a whole colony breeds here. With their bright colors - their turquoise bellies, yellow throats and red heads and wings - the bee-eaters stand out visually from the wall and can be observed very well. Until they leave Burgenland again in August and make their way to their winter quarters in Africa with their young birds, which are now airworthy. Your time in Weiden revolves entirely around the offspring. Depending on the month, the bee-eater will be at different stages in this process. At the beginning of May they will still create their brood tubes, at the end of May they will place the 2-7 eggs in them. If you come a few weeks later, you will see the new parents flying around, providing their offspring with food. They will not leave their brood tubes until the end of July and make their first attempts at flight.
