Laab im Walde is a municipality in Lower Austria with 1,094 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2023). Laab lies in a side valley of the Liesingbachtal on the Laaber Bach. Laab is known for its rehabilitation center, which is located at an altitude of 316m in the middle of the Vienna Woods. Laab was also a favorite hunting area for the Babenbergs and the Habsburgs.

The Rohrhaus and the Hirschgstemm are two inns in the Lainzer Tiergarten that are particularly popular for their atmosphere. Both are located in the heart of the Tiergarten. The Rasthaus Rohrhaus is about a 17-minute walk from the Hermesvilla in Ober St. Veit, the Hirschgstemm is about 35 minutes further, not far from the city limits of Lower Austria. Here you can gather new strength after a long excursion and enjoy the hearty home cooking.

The Hirschgstemm has been supplying hikers with food and drink since it opened in 1963. It owes its name to the fact that deer used to be fed here. After all, the Lainzer Tiergarten looks back on centuries of tradition as a hunting ground for the Habsburgs. It has been owned by the City of Vienna since 1937 and is only hunted to protect the forest from browsing. The rest house is located at 407 meters above sea level.
