I find it outrageous that the downhill ride costs the same as the uphill ride, regardless of the route. I went from Höllental to Schneeberg, then down to Baumgartner, and thought I'd save my legs from there. But €37 for Baumgartner-Puchberg is outrageous in my opinion. So I walked for 90 minutes.

The Damböckhaus (1,810 m) is located on the Schneeberg plateau, not far from St. Elizabeth's Church. The hut invites hikers to stop for a break and offers regional delicacies as well as beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. A popular rest stop that combines tradition with alpine flair.

St. Elizabeth's Church on the Schneeberg was built in 1901 and is the highest church in Lower Austria. Located right next to the Schneeberg cable car station, it is dedicated to Empress Elisabeth ("Sisi"). It is a special place that combines culture and the mountains and offers impressive views.

The Waxriegel (1,888 m) lies directly next to the Schneeberg and is a popular viewing point. From the summit cross, impressive views of the Schneeberg massif and far into the Vienna Basin open up. A worthwhile summit, it's usually less frequented and ideal for a quiet rest.

After centuries of decay, the ruins were painstakingly restored thanks to the dedication of Dr. Karl Leitner and today shine in their historic splendor. On the grounds, you'll find remnants of walls, towers with viewing platforms, and insights into the lives of former lords.
