Maissau Castle is a well-preserved hilltop castle. Its history dates back to the 12th century. Two distinct aspects of the complex are presented to the viewer. The older part, facing the forest, dates back to the 14th/15th century and still displays early Gothic architecture, particularly the watchtower and defense tower. From the town side, the southern wing, since its 19th-century remodeling, bears the character of a Romanesque-Neo-Gothic style. The complex is owned by the Abensperg and Traun families. It is not open to the public.

Maissau was built on one of the world's largest accessible amethyst veins. Here you enter (or leave) the town through one of the historic city gates.

There has been a party atmosphere here in the summer for over 25 years. The quarry party is known far beyond the village's borders and brings thousands of like-minded people together for many hours of partying. Outside of the party season, this is probably an inconspicuous place.

The Knellkreuz was erected in 1660 and renovated in 1836. The reason for the establishment was a particularly annoying plague. Since then, the mercy seat has been invoked in plagues. The Knellkreuz is made entirely of stone and plastered in white. Above the column is a square with the date of the renovation. The mercy seat is from the 18th century. and placed on a Gothic shaft.
