4월 25, 2025, View of Wat Phou Temple Complex
Wat Phu (Lao: ວັດພູ, "Mountain Temple") is a former Khmer Hindu temple complex in Champasak Province in southern Laos. The surviving ruins date from the 11th to 13th centuries. The "Temple Precinct of Wat Phou and the Associated Ancient Settlements in the Champasak Cultural Landscape" have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. 4월 25, 2025, Wat Phou Temple Complex
Not far from the Mekong River, at the foot of Mount Phu Kao, lies Wat Phou. The main path to the two palaces is located between two large basins, which today only fill with water during the rainy season. The ruins of the North and South Palaces still stand today, and reliefs from the Khmer period can be seen on their facades. Behind them began the road to Angkor Wat, which was so important at the time. From here, the path leads up the mountain to the sanctuary. The paving stones and the steps up the slope are old and have long been crooked. Sections of the stairs are steep, so those climbing them should take their time. At the top of the mountain stands the sanctuary, shaded by a clump of trees. The view from up here extends over the entire complex all the way to the Mekong. Behind the sanctuary is the steep rock face of the mountain with the sacred spring. The sanctuary is an important site for Buddhists; it contains three figures that are venerated by the locals. The façade features ornate reliefs and figures of Hindu symbols and bare-breasted beauties. Many deep cracks in the sanctuary testify to its age. Also up on the plateau, in close proximity, are a Buddha and two rocks, one resembling an elephant and the other a crocodile. A temple existed on this site as early as the 5th century; the current buildings date back to the 11th to 13th centuries. The Khmers originally dedicated the temple to the Hindu god Shiva. The top of the mountain on which the complex was built resembles a phallus (symbolizing Shiva's creative power) and a Shiva linga. Over time, the temple was converted into a Buddhist temple, but the Hindu elements from its time of construction can still be seen. 4월 24, 2025, Luang Prabang Morning Market
The Morning Market This small market is the Laotian "supermarket," where fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat are offered in display cases that don't always correspond to what we're used to in most of our countries. Some produce comes from the surrounding jungle and will certainly be highly exotic to travelers from Western countries. Starting at 8 a.m., this is a bustling place; a typical meeting place for Laotians who come to buy and/or sell. It's a busy place! You'll find many unusual foods such as ox blood in gelatinous cubes, snakes, bats, grilled insects (worms, grasshoppers, bee larvae, crickets, butterfly pupae), fly-covered entrails, caramelized pig's head, and all kinds of leaves and plants used in traditional dishes. 4월 24, 2025, Wat Xieng Thong
Wat Xieng Thong (Monastery of the Golden City): Built in 1560 by King Setthathirat of Lan Xang, it is considered the most elegant pagoda in Luang Prabang, and perhaps even in the entire country. With its curved, almost ground-level roofs and golden wooden facade, it is an architectural masterpiece of the city. Be sure to admire the mosaic of the Tree of Life, which symbolizes the connection between the earthly and the heavenly world. The pagoda lies at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers at the tip of the peninsula and is best visited early in the morning to enjoy its tranquil atmosphere. This is where the excursion boats on the Mekong depart. A trip to Pak Ou Cave (actually two caves with numerous Buddha statues) is highly recommended.

4월 24, 2025, Haw Pha Bang Temple, Royal Palace Grounds
Haw Pha Bang Temple, also called Wat Ho Pha Bang, translates as "Royal Temple." It is a modern Buddhist temple, built in 2006, with beautiful and elaborate decoration on its main facade. Although Wat Ho Pha Bang may appear ancient, construction of Haw Pha Bang Temple began in 1963 and was finally completed in 2006. The delay is due to the suspension of construction during the communist era. Source: https://www.vietnamitasenmadrid.com/de-sub/laos/luang-prabang-koniglicher-palast.html
