The lightship NORDERNEY is more than just a museum ship – it's a living piece of coastal history and a new landmark for Wilhelmshaven.

The historic lightship NORDERNEY, a fascinating testament to maritime history, has found its home port at the Wilhelmshaven Coastal Museum after more than a century of eventful history. Originally commissioned in 1907 as one of two identical ships for the Norderney station, the NORDERNEY looks back on an impressive career. After decades of faithful service as a floating navigational aid in the German Bight, most recently at the Weser station, a new chapter began for the ship in Wilhelmshaven in 1982.

The idyllic Nassau Harbor, with its floating pontoon of the Nassau Bridge, is home to numerous sailboats. The influence of the tides can hardly be observed more vividly than at Nassau Harbor: the pontoon and the boats moored there rise and fall by several meters with the alternating high and low tides. The Nassau Bridge is named after the crew of the SMS Nassau, who were the first to cross it in 1910.
