The damage to the forest here is also enormous and heartbreaking. However, the lack of forest currently offers some truly wonderful panoramic views in many places.

Not far from the Platte hunting lodge, the Herzogshütte is an inviting picnic spot. It is located at an altitude of 500 meters.

History. Unfortunately, nothing runs there anymore.

A sign on the Hohe Wurzel explains the missing trees: the trees have been weakened by the now regular extreme dry periods. The lack of water means that they do not produce enough resin to defend themselves against pests such as bark beetles. Anyone who knows the Hohe Wurzel from before will probably be shocked: it does indeed look very bare. But: reforestation is underway. A new mixed forest is planned that is better adapted to the changed climatic conditions.

The station houses a forest restaurant called "Waldgeist". Nice ambience, but I didn't go in and can't say anything about the food.

There is a nice beer garden here. If you want to eat well, there is enough space inside too

This is certainly extremely interesting for railway fans.

The tracks of the Aartalbahn were never dismantled. This is also why there are always considerations and initiatives to reactivate this railway line.
