3월 17, 2024, Electoral Saxon Post Milestone Landsberg
Story The Landsberg post mile column is a distance column made in 1730 in the shape of an obelisk. It was placed on the market square in Landsberg because the postal routes from Leipzig to Hamburg and Berlin crossed here. After it was dismantled, it was walled up in a stable building and rediscovered in 1954. The original coat of arms was brought to the museum. Since 1989, a replica of the post mile column has been back at its former location in Landsberg.[3] Source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurs%C3%A4chsische_Postmeilens%C3%A4ule_Landsberg

Landsberg was already a post office in 1663. Postal roads led past the inns “Zum Goldenen Löwen”, “Zum Pelikan”, “Zum weissen Schwan” (later “Zu den drei Schwanen”) and the Ratskeller. The postal routes Leipzig-Magdeburg-Hamburg and Leipzig-Köthen-Potsdam-Berlin ran through Landsberg. The post office was in the “Zum Goldenen Löwen” inn. A copy of a Saxon distance column still adorns the Landsberg market square today. Elector August the Strong had given the order to erect road signs on all mobile routes in Saxony. Particularly magnificent obelisks were erected at the distance points that formed the beginning of the postal or country roads. The Landsberg distance column has stood on the market square since 1730. It was removed when Prussia took over Saxon territories in 1815. A copy has stood in its place since 1989. The original coat of arms part of the column from 1730 can be viewed in the Landsberg Museum. Source: https://www.stadt-landsberg.de/de/artikelbedarf/gehenswuerdigkeiten-der-stadt-landsberg.html

St George and Elizabeth The single-nave church was built from rubble stones in the 13th century. On the north side there is a chapel with a square ground plan, also built in the 13th century, which is used as a baptistery. To the west of the nave is a church tower standing across the nave, the origin of which dates back to the first half of the 13th century. It has three-part acoustic arcades and is covered by a gabled roof. In the years 1633 and 1655 the nave was destroyed by fire and later renewed. In 1767 a porch was built on the south side of the nave. In the night from August 7th to 8th, 1928[1] the nave was again destroyed in another fire and rebuilt in the years 1929/30. The interior of the ship is spanned by a wooden barrel. The church tower was originally opened towards the nave by a late Romanesque double arcade. The current interior design dates from the reconstruction from 1929 and is a rare example of church furnishings in the 1930s. In particular, the north and west gallery, pulpit altar and organ date from this period. The pulpit altar is on the east wall. On the pulpit is the inscription The word of our God endures forever. To the left of the altar is a historic chair that survived the catastrophic fire. It is known as the Luther chair because the reformer Martin Luther is said to have sat on it during a visit to Oppin.
