It is a classic stone arch bridge made of local sandstone, which blends harmoniously into the rugged rocky landscape of the Schindergraben. The bridge appears particularly monumental when photographed from the valley floor of the Schindergraben.

These are the remains of a former bear enclosure, built in 1609 by order of Elector Christian II. The facility served to keep bears for stag hunts at the Dresden court. Its use ended in 1756 when the remaining bears were killed due to the enclosure's dilapidated condition. Today, you can still see the massive foundations, some over a meter thick, and remnants of the barrier wall. The ruin is picturesquely situated in the forest and exudes a certain "lost place" atmosphere.

There is no Gautschgrotte here, this is the Thieves' Den.

It used to be an absolute eye-catcher, but today it is unfortunately quite overgrown.

Hohnstein Castle is located in the immediate vicinity of the Saxon Switzerland National Park and not far from the Bastei on a rocky promontory above the romantic Polenztal valley and the town of Hohnstein. The medieval castle complex was first mentioned in a document from 1353, was the seat of the nobility, an office, a state prison and a hunting lodge - and in the 1920s it was the largest and most beautiful youth hostel in Germany. Hohnstein Castle is a picturesque monument thanks to its location alone. The immediate surroundings of the rocks and the deeply cut valleys attracted painters in the 18th and 19th centuries. Caspar David Friedrich was no exception! He was repeatedly inspired by the Elbe Sandstones during his wanderings.
