Great view of the Rhine and the castle. I walked the Gutenfelssteig trail from Kaub train station to this spot; it's a short but steep climb. The Rheinsteig trail joins it nearby.

In 1339, the Counts Palatine Rudolf, Rupert the Elder, and Rupert the Younger established a perpetual truce for "Kube, our castle, and the town of Kube and Pfallenzgrafenstein," the name under which the Palatinate first appears here. In peacetime, its entire force consisted of only one customs guard.
