Beautiful place

Before you lies the open expanse of the Peringmaar. The wind creates small ripples in the water, clouds are reflected on its surface, and trees and meadows line its shores. A trip here is worthwhile at any time of year.

The Peringsmaar, located between Glesch and Blerichen, is an artificial lake situated on the reclaimed land of the former Fortuna-Garsdorf open-cast mine. The lake covers approximately 20 hectares and reaches depths of up to 25 meters. Surrounded by floodplains and meadows, the Peringsmaar is the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the grayness of the landscape and embrace greenery.

The wild sage meadow at Peringsmaar is truly impressive. Not far from the shore, the plant, which grows to about 30 to 60 centimeters tall and blooms blue-violet in summer, thrives. Meadow sage is an important nectar source for many insects. If you are very quiet, you can hear the buzzing of the bees.

First mentioned in 1230 as the bailiwick of Paffendorf, this Renaissance-style moated castle is completely surrounded by water. Today, a brasserie invites visitors to enjoy coffee, cakes, and light meals. These can be savored either in the stylish interior or in the castle courtyard overlooking the park. The courtyard also serves as a venue for concerts and Christmas markets. The 7.5-hectare castle park delights visitors with its expansive water features, ancient sequoias and ginkgo trees, a stone pavilion, and numerous seating areas that invite relaxation.

The current church building dates back to 1507 and has been remodeled several times. The church houses several important works of sacred art.
