This monument commemorates Peter Joseph Lenné, one of the most important landscape architects of the 19th century. Surrounded by park-like natural surroundings, it clearly demonstrates how strongly his ideas shaped the design of the Bavarian lake district.

As a reward for his commitment in Feldafing, Lenné received the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown from King Maximilian II of Bavaria in October 1853, and seven years later the Bavarian Order of Merit of St. Michael.
