The Devil's Arrows are three aligned standing stones. The standing stone alignment consists of some of the tallest standing stones in the United Kingdom. Erected during the Stone Age and distinctively grooved by millennia of rainfall, the tallest southernmost stone is 22.5 feet (6.85 m) in height, making this the second tallest menhir in the United Kingdom.

Founded as a monastery by monks of the Irish tradition in the 660s, it was refounded as a Benedictine monastery by St Wilfrid in 672.

Aldborough was once the capital of the Romanised Brigantes tribe, the largest tribe in Britain at the time. The museum run by English Heritage (paid entry £5.60 for non-members) has a collection of Roman finds, two preserved mosaic floors and a section of the old wall defence. Open Fri, Sat & Sun April to Sep. Closed over winter.

The Devil's Arrows are three standing stones just outside Boroughbridge and next to the A1. The stones are millstone grit, thought to have been sourced at Plumpton Rocks near Knaresborough, about 9 miles away. Legend has it that the Devil hurled the stones at nearby Aldborough but they fell short and they landed here. The tallest is 22.5ft, which is taller than stonehenge and the tallest standing stone in the UK after the monolith at Rudstone. It is believed there was once five stones but the fifth was removed in the hope that treasure was buried at its base.

The gothic Ripon Cathedral dates from the 7th century founded by Scottish monks in 662 but refounded as a Benedictine monastery in 672. Previously Ripon Minster, it became a cathedral in 1836. There has been a stone church on the site since 672 when Saint Wilfrid replaced the previous timber church of the monastery at Ripon with one in the Roman style. This is one of the earliest stone buildings erected in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria.

Ripon Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral dating back to 672 AD when it was founded by St Wilfrid. Over the centuries, it's experienced destruction at the hands of parliamentary troops in 1663 and suffered structural collapse. Nonetheless, it stands today as a stunning historic cathedral in the heart of Ripon. The cathedral is open to visitors 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 5pm on Sunday. Entrance is free.
