알제주르 성은 언덕 꼭대기에 자리 잡고 있으며, 청동기 시대까지 거슬러 올라가는 유적 위에 세워졌고, 나중에 12~13세기 이슬람 방어 시스템에 통합되었습니다. D. Afonso III 시대에 기독교인들에게 정복되었으며, 아랍 기원의 아치형 저수지, 두 개의 탑, 성벽의 일부와 고대 주거지의 폐허가 여전히 남아 있습니다. 시간이 흘러 흔적이 남았지만, 이 성은 꼭 방문해야 할 기념물입니다. 돌 하나하나에 역사가 담겨 있고, 계곡과 대서양을 가로지르는 탁 트인 전망이 오르는 수고를 보상해 줍니다.

We found it too dangerous to climb through the gorge, even though I've hiked a lot on the South West Coast Path in England. Unfortunately, we had to take the inland route back to the car park instead of going through the gorge. It looks like the official hiking trail was moved away from the coast here for good reason.

In the evening, it's absolutely fantastic to hike along the path to the coast. A very beautiful path through the dune landscape to the beach.

This wide beach isn't just for low tide. Dangerous undercurrents are present here. Those who aren't afraid of them can simply swim on the banks of the estuary of the Ribeira de Aljezur.
