Great view from the suspension bridge

My wife and I took this hike today from the main parking lot. We went counterclockwise which is longer than driving to and started from the parking lot closest to the trail to the Knoll, which is clockwise. It’s shorter but straight up. We’re in our 70’s and we had a dog with us who is also a senior. Very good trail with lots of Sitka Spruce trees. View from the Knoll was worth it. Go slow and hydrate often. It’s a rise in elevation of about 750 feet.

Otter Rock Marine Reserve can be accessed via Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area. In and around the grounds, visitors can explore tide pools, see seals on the rocks and walk along the long sandy beach at Beverly Beach State Park. Check out tips on tidepool etiquette and seal watching to help protect these species and special places. Three offshore islands mark the western border of the marine reserve. Nearby cities and ports include Depoe Bay, Otter Rock and Newport.

Devils Punch Bowl State Natural Area is a state park on the coast of the US state of Oregon. The park is located eight miles north of Newport in Lincoln County, about a quarter mile from Highway 101. There is a picnic area within the 8-acre park, and a path leads from the cliffs to a sandy stretch of beach with tide pools. At the center of the state park lies a large natural basin cut into the rocky shoreline and connected to the Pacific Ocean by two tunnels. When the waves splash loudly into this pool, called the Devils Punchbowl, at high tide, the water is swirled around and fountains of spray spray into the sky. The basin is believed to have been formed by the collapse of two caves created by wind and tides. The stretch of beach south of the state park offers good surfing conditions, with a funnel-like rock called Gull Rock about a half-mile offshore. There are at least 17 large rocks off the coast that are part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Because the park offers sweeping panoramic views of the ocean, it is a very popular spot for observing gray whale migration in spring and fall.

The Seal Rock State has large offshore rock formations that provide habitat for seals, sea lions, seabirds and other marine life. The beach offers interesting tide pools as well as excellent sea views and a sandy beach. The short walk to the beach is steep but offers an ADA-accessible overlook in the middle overlooking the beach and tide pools.

Seal Rock is a great place to spot wildlife from seal, to sea lions, and birds to whales. If you're riding by on Highway 101 this would be a good spot for a short break and walk down to the beach.

A steep climb God's Thumb rewards you with views of the wild Oregon coast, Cascade Head to the north, and the little town of Lincoln City to the south.

Seal Rock State Recreation Site is situated south of Newport and is named after the offshore rock formations that offer perfect living conditions for seals, sea lions and more sea life. From the viewpoints along the mini-trail, you get great views and can probably sight some wildlife already. If you want to take a closer look, there is a trail leading down to the beach. Just make sure, to always respect the present wildlife and keep distance.
