Pahrump is a neat little desert town you will pass on your way from Las Vegas into Death Valley National Park. It is worth a short stop to see the old Wild West buildings around the Gold Town Casino. You can also buy some groceries and grab a bite before you enter the backcountry.

Rhyolite is named after the stone that is found all over the area: rhyolit. The town was build during the gold mining rush and is home to the famous Tom Kelly bottle house.

Since there was no wood in 1905 in the area to build houses, the owner and builder Tom Kelly decided to build this house with the best available thing: bottles. He collected around 51,000 bottles from saloons. The bottles were secured with mud. The Thompson family were the last to live in this building and left in 1969.
