I really liked this route, except for the return trip, which went through the town. I would have returned the same way I came.

The monument to the burial of the sardine was built thanks to a project by the Sardine Association of Murcia and is the work of the sculptor Miguel Llamas. It was placed in the waters of the Segura River in April 2007. The sardine weighs 10 tons and is made of bronze with a blue-green patina. It is 25 meters long and 4 meters high and cost 500,000 euros.

Luis Antonio de Belluga y Moncada, better known as Cardinal Belluga (Motril, Granada, 30 November 1662 - Rome, 22 February 1743) was a Spanish religious man and statesman who held the positions of cardinal of the Catholic Church and viceroy of Murcia and Valencia. He was orphaned at the age of a few years, together with his two sisters, Ignacia Francisca and Isabel. At the age of fourteen he received minor priestly ordination at the seminary. From 1678 to 1685 he studied theology at the Royal College of San Bartolomé and Santiago in the city of Granada. He was already a priest and held the positions of lector at the Cathedral of Córdoba and canon-master at the Cathedral of Zamora. Cardinal Belluga carried out important work in the city of Murcia.
