A fantastic, huge beach where you can also take lovely walks – a dream setting.

In my opinion not worth the money throughout the day. You can literally walk underneath it for free. At night however it’s a different story really cool experience in the dark. Make sure to get there late though as it tends to be quite crowded even during night hours.

Definitely worth a visit. There are numerous tracks which you can choose from however the actual red-wood-forest is not that big.

Note: the "Volcanic Valley" is a paid offer. The current price is 65 NZD per person. It is worth every dollar. I am convinced that if the offer were free, then this very exciting location and the habitat for the diverse flora and fauna would be destroyed in no time by masses of visitors.

A fantastic track encircling Mauao, an iconic landmark nestled in Mount Maunganui with stunning views of Tauranga, Matakana Island, and the ocean. You can start from the shores of Pilot Bay or the white sands by the ocean. Allow yourself at least 45 minutes to complete this track. It's a good surface throughout but note cycling is forbidden unfortunately.

Coast redwoods - Sequoia sempervirens: Nice walk

The Matapihi Rail Bridge, an iconic structure at the southern edge of central Tauranga, was constructed by the East Coast Main Trunk Railway and completed in 1924. Linking downtown Tauranga with the Matapihi peninsula over Tauranga Harbour, the bridge was later enhanced in the 1950s with a dedicated pathway for pedestrians and cyclists.

Mount Maunganui, a suburb of Tauranga city about six kilometers away. It is located on a peninsula and has both a sheltered harbor coast and an ocean coast within easy reach. The name Mount Maunganui was taken from the extinct volcano of the same name, which rises 231 meters above the city, but is officially back today bears the Maori name Mauao. At the foot of Mauao, the suburb is only a few hundred meters wide. There are the best beaches in the region. The sea is popular with surfers, while the hill offers good hiking trails and great views.
