The simply crafted wooden railing surrounding this memorial cross creates a small "sacred precinct" around the small sacred monument. The cross itself, also made of wood, lacks a corpus or INRI plaque, but is covered with a protective gable roof. The crossbeam bears the inscription "Bull's Cross" and the year "2005." Attached to the longitudinal beam, just below the crossing, is an information panel with an image and inscription explaining the purpose of this cross—the commemoration of Anton Schachner, who died in 1828.

This small sacred monument, located in a prominent position here – about half a kilometer south of the Hochkogel – dominates the surrounding area and apparently has several different names: It is sometimes called the "St. James's Cross" and also the "Pilgrim's Cross." Both names clearly have the same origin and indicate that one of the Ways of St. James is located here. This pilgrimage, which covers all of Europe like a net, leads across the continent to northwestern Galicia (Spain). There – in Santiago de Compostela – the tomb of the Holy Apostle James the Greater (Jacobus Major) has been venerated for many centuries.

For a brief rest at the TRERENBACH CROSS, a brief thought from Pope Francis might be helpful. During the traditional Stations of the Cross prayer with the Holy Father on Good Friday 2024 in the Colosseum in Rome, he posed the question: "Where are we on Golgotha? Beneath the cross? With some distance? Far away? Or perhaps, like the apostles, we are no longer there." He then continues with the meditation: "You breathe, and this breath, the last and the first, only asks to be accepted. Lord Jesus, lead us to your gift. Do not allow your breath of life to evaporate."
