The upper section of the Ribbon offers mostly easy to moderate difficulty. You surf down massive slabs of rock with magnificent views of the valley below. The crux is the transition from one slab of rock to "a level below," where a short but very steep slickrock section must be negotiated. Overall, an absolutely unforgettable, otherworldly trail!

Only at the end of the trail do you see the steep rock overhangs you've climbed to get there. So the path isn't entirely safe. Furthermore, the trail isn't particularly well marked. But if you try to get to the farthest corner by feel, you'll find it yourself.

Balanced Rock is an impressive sandstone boulder, dramatically perched on a slender rock pedestal. This is a fantastic vantage point, and the best time to view it is at sunrise, when the light highlights its precarious balance against the rugged canyon backdrop.
