Beautiful views of the lake with lots of things to see and do! Bike paths are generally very well-maintained, and separated from street traffic (usually), so you can enjoy the scenery without too much stress.

On my second "Around Germany" cycling trip (this time going left-handed), I cycled along the Swiss side of Lake Constance. Even though the bike paths were consistently beautiful, most of the route was boring – the German side of the Lake Constance Cycle Route is much more varied and beautiful.

What you learn on a tour of the castle: After Napoleon's fall, his stepdaughter, the Dutch Queen Hortense, bought the Arenenberg castle estate in 1817 and made it her residence in exile. She renovated and furnished the magnificent salons in style. She brought her nine-year-old son Louis Napoléon with her from France, who later became the last emperor of France under the name Napoleon III. His wife, Empress Eugénie, expanded the castle to include additional salons before donating the property to the canton of Thurgau in 1906.

The Kreuzlingen fortress belt was planned from 1935 and built from 1937. In a letter to the Federal Military Department (EMD) dated February 11, 1937, the then Chief of Staff, Corps Commander Labhart, justified the need for the construction of the Kreuzlingen fortress belt as follows: “The Kreuzlingen subsection is of particular importance. The Germans are already in possession of the Rhine bridges and can deploy some of their troops to the left of the Rhine before the outbreak of war.
