Eglin Air Force Base holds the highest point on the Florida Trail, 272 feet above sea level. The Florida Trail spans 45 miles across this military base, and access to these sections requires hikers to check the Public Access Map (PAM) daily for potential closures due to military activities. Thru-hikers whose journey originates more than 50 miles outside the base boundary must contact the Jackson Guard for their free permits to cross this area.

Some great cross country MTB trail here! Hard-packed sand for the most part with some nice curves. Foliage varies along its length and overall it’s a pleasant ride even on a windy day.

They have 3 loops of trail that are marked with yellow (shortest) red (medium) and orange (longest) blazes on the trees that are easy to follow. Various surfaces will be encountered on the trails, good old dirt as well as sands of the white, gray and yellow varieties. The yellow is the most trustworthy beneath your wheels. The gray is almost always good but can be a bit soft in spots and loose in a corner. The white should be met with some hesitation, it shifts quickly. Riding tip, shift rearward and put more weight on your rear wheel, try and pedal smoothly with even pressure and lighten the front wheel so it floats on top of the sands.

A great little park amongst all the hustle and bustle. There is beach access but you have to walk some distance to it. I did see a trolley that seemed to stop at various places so maybe that gets you closer? 🤷🏿‍♂️. The trails are all wide. Biking on some of the unpaved roads is hard because of all the sand. Plenty of firm trails to pedal on though.

Lake DeFuniak is the centerpiece of Chipley Park, a popular birdwatching area on the Florida Birding Trail. Here, you’ll find people kayaking, boating, and paddleboarding. A nice paved path takes you all the way around the lake.

This award-winning beach, voted one of the top in the country, features pristine white sand. It's a popular spot for scuba diving, offering a chance to visit an underwater art museum. Even if you don't get in the water, the views from this point are stunning. You can either choose to walk along the beach or return on the trail from here.

This state park is located off the pristine Grayton Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Covering more than 2,000 acres, it's a perfect place to catch a stunning sunset with views of the ocean and the lake on both sides.
