A military fortress with a defensive purpose, built in 1097, during the reign of William the Conqueror's second son, Gisors Castle marks a major page in the medieval history of Normandy. This fortification was intended to protect the Norman possessions of the King of England against the ambitions of the King of France. A true border place and eastern lock of Normandy, it was part of a vast campaign of fortifications in the Epte Valley, the natural boundary between the two kingdoms.

At the bottom of the rue de Vienne, just at the beginning of the Rue des Argilières, there is an old wash house listed as an Historic Monuments since 1927. It is reached down the street or following the circuit of the fortifications of the sixteenth century. century of the castle. Its wooden pillars follow the curve of the Epte and its slate-covered timberwork today offers a pleasant stop over the water, just at the crossroads of the main shopping streets of the city center. Vestige of the daily life of yesteryear, it reminds us how much the river was important in the life of the city, participating in its economic development but also in its social life.

Dating back to the 11th century, the Chateau de Gisors is an incredible example of military architecture from 11th to the 16th century. It was built as a strategic fortress on the border of the Ducy of Normandy and the French Kingdom and witnessed many conflicts between the kings of England and France. King William II of England originally ordered the castle's construction to protect Normandy from the French crown. The French Ministry of Culture recognises the castle as a historic monument. Today, you can visit the fortress and its grounds. Tickets for adults cost €5. You can find more information, here: http://en.normandie-tourisme.fr/pcu/chateau-de-gisors/

The castle of Gisors is the ruins of a tower hill castle in the French city of Gisors in the Département Eure, Normandy region, dating back to the 11th century. Their fortified tower (donjon) stands on a moth, a 1097 artificial mound. From 1106 the castle is built, in 1113 it is completed. The castle had a unique strategic location on the border with Normandy, whose dukes from 1066 to 1204 were also kings of England. As the builder of the "Castrum Gisortis" is Robert II de Bellême commissioned by William II of England, It became particularly well-known, because according to the legend the Templerschatz should have been hidden in it, after the French king Philip IV on 13 October 1307 had the leadership of the order arrested. In particular, the Gérard de Sède claimed in his 1963 book The Templars are Among Us. He relies on an imaginative interpretation of a Templar Knight's testimony in the interrogations after their arrest that the day before the arrest high Templars under Gerard de Villers and Hugo of Chalons had left the Paris Templar headquarters with three carts with 50 horses, where he saw the three carts as an encrypted reference to Gisors, which he called the castle of the three cars due to a star constellation at the founding of the castle. They originally wanted to ship the treasure to de Sède (in the port of Eu to de Sède), but would have been hampered by road closures. Gisors was on an old Roman road between Paris and Eu. Further support he saw in the statements of the former gardener and leader of the castle Roger Lhomoy, who in 1946 illegally carried out excavations starting from the old well of the castle
