the old town, an absolute must

The Collegiate Church of Saint-Laurent in Estavayer-le-Lac is an elegant Gothic building. The bell tower defines the town's silhouette. The stalls, railings, and altar are particularly remarkable. The Collegiate Church of Estavayer-le-Lac stands on the remains of a Romanesque sanctuary. Its construction lasted from 1379 to 1525. The last element completed was the bell tower, with four watchtowers (projecting boxes) and a spire. It is said to house one of the most beautiful peals in the canton. The eight bells were cast between the 15th and 20th centuries. Estavayer-le-Lac had its own bell founder: in 1865, an order for bells from Charles Arnoux prompted the founder to settle permanently in the town. Until 1945, the year the clock and bells were electrified, the bell ringer lived in the bell tower where he had a small room. The carillon has a series of refrains, programmed to sound throughout the seasons and the liturgical calendar.
