The largest rock in the Palatinate Forest.

The German-French Castle Trail leads beneath the impressive Wolf Rock... from below, the enormous rock face looks gigantic...

The Altschlosspfad was rightly named the most beautiful hiking trail in Germany in 2022. It leads to one of the mightiest rocks in the Palatinate Forest. The name goes back to an old castle that has long since fallen into disrepair. A good starting point is from the car park at the Hotel Kupper and follow the well-signposted path👍

Nowadays it is a particularly beautiful place, with a great view of Gebüg (a district of Schönau) and Fischbach with the district of Unterpetersbächlerhof. On May 13, 1940, however, during World War II, a cruel battle took place on Maimont - both on the main summit and on the secondary summit (= site of today's Peace Cross) - in which numerous French and German soldiers lost their lives. Really very nice. But on Sundays or public holidays you have to be there very early or better yet choose a weekday. There is a lot going on here
