9월 9, 2025, Multberg Castle Site
The Multberg rises southeast of the village of Pfungen in the lower Töss Valley. The summit plateau, measuring approximately 45 x 25 meters, is protected by ditches on the west and east sides, and the terrain drops steeply all around. According to archaeological findings, Multberg Castle was built around the middle of the 13th century. Construction appears to have been carried out under time pressure and was rather makeshift. Whether the castle ever served as a permanent residence is questionable. Its builders are believed to have been the Barons of Wart, who at that time also owned the neighboring castles of Pfungen and Wart. The original name of the castle is unknown. Its destruction occurred in the spring of 1309. After Rudolf III of Wart had actively participated in the assassination of King Albrecht I of Habsburg the previous year, Multberg, along with Wart, fell victim to the Habsburg campaign of revenge under Duke Leopold I of Austria. The chronicler Johannes von Winterthur reports that he saw two castles burning at that time: they must have been Wart and Multberg. It's a bit of a shame that there is no information plaque on site about the former castle and its history. https://www.burgenwelt.org/schweiz/multberg/object.php

Looks a bit like Neuschwanstein Castle. But a place to visit.

Based on Neuschwanstein Castle? In any case, not very successful and somehow strange here... Wart Castle is one of the youngest in the canton.

No remains of the walls are visible from the castle. The castle site lies on a plateau at the top of the mountain, measuring about 45 × 25 meters and protected by ditches on the west and east sides. The terrain drops steeply on all sides around the castle site. Archaeological finds made during excavations in 1953 show that the site was inhabited as early as the late Bronze Age. The excavations showed that the castle was surrounded by a pentagonal ring wall made of sandstone blocks, 1.8 to 3.4 m thick. An opening on the south side was closed with a 22.4 long wooden palisade. Neither a tower nor a residential building was found, so it can be assumed that the inhabitants lived in wooden buildings along the inside of the curtain wall. During the excavations, small finds such as pottery shards, buckles, arrowheads, crossbow bolts, keys, decorative bronze nails and boar tusks were made. After the excavations were completed, the remains of the wall were covered up again.

After 1841, the Mörsburg stood empty for sixty years, then the Historical Antiquarian Society Winterthur set up shop there, which has used the castle as a museum ever since. Until 2000 the castle warden lived in an apartment on the 3rd floor of the castle. Since June 2016, the Mörsburg has been looked after by the neighboring inn and restaurant Schlosshalde.

A beautiful tower that can be accessed inside through a modern iron frame and offers a wonderful view over the entire valley. Definitely worth the climb!

Wyden Castle Very idyllic location, in the middle of nature. The listed building, the oldest parts of which date back to the Middle Ages, is privately owned. Castle Wyden was rebuilt in 1946 after it had largely burned down. The facility had been badly damaged two years earlier when a stray US bomber crashed. On July 19, 1944, the pilotless American plane - it came from an operation over Munich - crashed directly into the castle tower. The plane was probably shot over Friedrichshafen. The team of seven had previously saved themselves from the burning plane by parachute jump in Lake Constance. Miraculously, no one was injured in the crash.

The ruins of Freienstein, also called Alten-Teufen Castle, are the ruins of a hilltop castle at 460 m above sea level. M. in the municipality of Freienstein-Teufen in the canton of Zurich on a hill above a vineyard. The heart well west of the tower was discovered in 1968. It was fully excavated in 1981/82. From the bottom of the moat, the builders had driven a shaft from 2.30 m to 2.40 m side length and 26.40 m depth into the Molasse rock. Tufa blocks at a depth of 10 and 15 meters show that the shaft was bricked up to the height of the tower base. The total depth of the fountain is 33.5 meters. (Wikipedia)
