Surrounded by greenery and located next to the Lake, this mansion in a French architectural style was home to Lu Han (1895-1974), a former general and head of the Yunnan Provincial Government. On 9-Dec-1949 it was from here that he initiated the Yunnan Uprising that led to Yunnan joining the People's Republic of China and the apprehension of Kuomintang leaders at his mansion. As history is normally written by those victorious, the building today is a memorial and museum to the peaceful Yunnan Uprising - and wax figures are used in the conference room to recreate the events of that evening. The memorial/museum is open from 9am to 5pm, some days even longer.

Yuantong Buddhist Temple is located just a 10 minute walk from Cuihu Lake in Kunming. Its history dates back about 1200 years. It is a historic temple that was initially built during the 8th and 9th century (Tang Dynasty). It underwent a couple of restorations and expansions, most notably during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which gave it its current appearance.

Carved out of the mountain side over a 72 year period during the Qing Dynasty, this magnificent Taoist temple requires climbing hundreds of stairs down and up. It is an impressive site in itself, but also offers amazing views over Dianchi Lake below and Kunming.

A scenic area about 15km west of Kunming, overlooking Dianchi Lake. Covered with dense forest and populated with numerous temples, pavilions and grottoes, the most famous being the Dragon Gate (龙门). Access from various gates, with the option of climbing the hill, going up using the rope way, or hiking across. Be prepared to go up and down many, many stairs. Wear suitable footwear, as the paths are uneven and can be slippery.

If you don’t mind venturing into a small alley in an absolutely not touristy neighborhood and enjoy some local food, then try Jiexiao Alley. When entering it has a couple of basic local food shops, then surprises with some busy restaurants, such as Taixiao Dining Hall, Laotao Jia, Xingjuejia Snacks

The building is called Shengli Jiubei and they stand at both sides of the opening towards the monument. Interesting the rounded front and how they curve up the street.

A classical building at the end of Qianwang Street. Built in 1923 it was the residence to a Yunnan army general. The open courtyard inside the building is now frequently used for performances.
